Build any nitrile functional group chemical structure molecular model with the 68827W Advanced Organic Chemistry Model Set from Indigo® Instruments.

The 68827W student organic chemistry model set can depict the nitrile functional group (-C≡N) 2 ways as shown in the image. One way is to show the triple bonding between C and N using the tetrahedral geometries and 3 35mm bonds. The alternative way is to use the 180o linear versions which imply a triple bond. From left to right, clockwise, you can see 2 different representations for acetonitrile, acrylonitrile and cyanide. I like the compact size, but the clear bonds are extremely annoying and difficult to use at first. I had to warm them up with a hair dryer to make them more flexible and even after some use, it still takes effort to push the atoms in. There must be a better balance of durability and usability.

— Indigo: Unfortunately there is the trade off between stiffness & durability. We suggest putting them in your pocket for a while before initial use. This will soften them up & stretch the openings to make future use easier.

Good kit. Fast delivery. It made visualizing chair/boat conformations easier, helped figuring out chirality and stereochem as well. The clear bonds however were sometimes hard to work with as you really need to shove the parts into them, and can slow you down if you're able to use a model kit in exams. As a result, I like using the more rigid grey bonds for most of my builds. The bendable bonds are good if you need to visualize your alkenes and alkynes.

Thanks for the feedback. The rigid bonds are great for chair boat flips but eventually wear out with repeated use. The clear bonds are tougher to work with at first but eventually loosen up enough to make them easier to use. They will last over many more uses which is good if you are taking chemistry as a degree.
