Chitin Polymer Structure
The glucose model kit is intended mainly for showing the various important sugars. However, chitin is composed of glucosamine which is only slightly different from cellulose. It is as important to insects as cellulose is to plants for maintaining structural integrity & is shown here for reference only.
The nitrogen atoms shown in the image have a planar geometry although some texts/on-line sources indicate a tetrahedral geometry. Use the planar carbons, nitrogens & single oxygens along with the double bond "X" pegs to build the amine group. The double bond itself uses a 20mm "wobbly"™ and 20mm thin bond.
