Magnesium oxide occurs naturally as periclase, a hygroscopic mineral that readily combines with water to form magnesium hydroxide. It is used as an antacid, a mild laxative & has various medicinal uses. The image shows its unit cell which has a halite (cubic) crystal structure similar to sodium chloride. Note that the price is for the entire model which consists of 125 atoms. The unit cell has just 27 atoms.
A FCC unit cell can also be seen this in the spacefilling version shown in the Unit style model or this ball & spoke NaCl unit cell model.
Indigo Instruments has maintained a substantial inventory of genuine Cochranes of Oxford (Orbit) parts for 30+ years and are compatible with every molecular model kit we have sold. This level of quality may appear expensive but no parts support from other vendors costs even more.
This model can be used to represent either sodium chloride (NaCl) or magnesia (MgO) and shows a simplified version of a cubic close packed crystal structure. Oxygen is normally depicted as red, so if you would prefer that instead of green, please note this in the "Comments" portion of the on-line order form.
