Myristicin has a heterocyclic chemical structure of a benzodioxole which is a benzene ring fused to a dioxole. It is found in a variety of plants such as dill, nutmeg, parsley, pepper spice, wild carrot and highbush blueberry.

The essential oil of nutmeg also contains other volatile oils that are monoterpine hydrocarbons, monoterpine alcohols, or aromatics such as elemicin, safrole, methyleugenol, eugenol & isoeugenol
