Construct a 3D molecule model of Bromothymol Blue from Authentic Molymod Atoms & Bonds by Indigo
Bromothymol blue is a pH indicator generally used in the range of 6.0 to 7.6 & is ideal for maintaining pools and fish aquariums near neutral pH 7. At pH levels below 6 it appears yellow, green to turquoise from pH 6.0-7.6 and blue in alkaline solutions above pH 7.6.
Bromothymol blue can be used in experiments demonstrating cellular respiration by adding it to pH 7 neutral water and observing a color change from green to yellow when carbon dioxide is exhaled & bubbled through it. Carbon dioxide is converted to carbonic acid in water, lowering the pH.
Cloth impregnated with Bromothymol blue reacts to ammonia, an otherwise colorless gas, and creates a blue color making it useful in leak detection. When the cloth is left exposed to air, carbon dioxide neutralizes the alkalinity & reverses the color change.
This molecule is also a good example of the C3 Point Group & shows rotation.

A molecular model of Bromothymol Blue in the Molymod Hybrid Dome style uses the atoms & bonds in the parts list below. Our free 3D Molecular Model Builder shows other styles & allows for image rotation as an assembly guide.
