Create a molecule structure model of anandamide out of Genuine Molymod Atoms & Bonds by Indigo Instruments
Anandamide is an endogenous cannabinoid neurotransmitter derived from the essential omega-6 fatty acid (arachidonic acid). It classified as an N-acylethanolamine which consists of an alkane like hydrocarbon chain with ethanolamine and amide groups at opposite ends.
Anyone who has ever done a lot of exercise may have felt something similar to a "runner's high". This was long thought to be related to the release of endorphins, hormones we produce in our pituitary gland that are similar to morphine but much more potent. It turns out that the molecule(s) responsible for this may be closer to those associated with smoking marijuana which has a variety of phytocannabinoids. Anandamide, appropriately, comes from the Sanskrit word ananda which means "joy, bliss, delight".
