Separate ribbon cable connectors & flat flex cables with the Indigo™ 22578 curved hook dental pick. Disconnect ZIF connectors and cable assemblies without damaging delicate pins or conductors.
Modern electronics rely heavily on ribbon cables and flat flex connectors that lock into ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) and similar sockets. These connectors can require releasing a locking tab or lifting the cable from its socket without damaging delicate conductors or connector pins. The Indigo™ 22578's curved talon provides electronics technicians precise control for engaging cable edges and connector tabs to apply exact lifting force. This is particularly valuable when working inside laptops, printers, and consumer electronics where ribbon cables connect displays, keyboards, and internal components. The curve allows you to approach from angles that straight tools cannot achieve in cramped electronics enclosures. Forcing these connectors causes expensive damage; proper technique with appropriate tools prevents costly mistakes during repair and upgrade work.
Indigo™ dental tools are made with AISI 410 German surgical grade stainless steel, not "alloy steel" made from rusted cars. We've been selling dental tools on-line since 1998. Ours stay sharp longer & are autoclavable: see Documentation below that confirms chromium & manganese content.
Before attempting disconnection, identify the connector type and locking mechanism. For ZIF connectors, locate the locking bar and use the curved hook to lift it to the open position. For pressure-fit ribbon cables, insert the hook tip under one edge of the cable and apply gentle lifting pressure while working along the cable length. Never pull on the cable itself. Always work from the connector end. The curved design allows you to get underneath cables in tight spaces where fingers won't fit. Work slowly and observe whether the connector is releasing—forcing will break pins or tear conductors. Take photos before disconnection to ensure correct reconnection orientation. Inspect connectors for bent pins before reconnecting.
Need an ultrafine tool to clear clogged nozzles or microfilters? Insect pins may be a practical alternative. Our unique 100 pin sampler package has 10 pins in 10 thicknesses, all made with grade 316 stainless steel.
