The professional Indigo™ 22578 universal curette dental pick is useful for extracting fasteners, removing debris, cutting grooves, and cleaning tight spaces. The autoclavable stainless steel talon shaped curved hook is suitable for automotive, electronics, firearms, and craft applications.
The Indigo™ 22578 universal curette dental pick is a professional-grade stainless steel tool featuring a distinctive talon-shaped curved hook designed for extraction, scraping, and precision cutting applications. This dental curette scaler excels at tasks requiring controlled pulling force and access to curved or recessed surfaces. From extracting cotter pins and circlips to removing wrapped debris from vacuum rollers, cleaning firearm chamber edges, and cutting decorative inlay channels. The sharp hooked tip engages materials securely for positive extraction, while the curved geometry allows approach angles that straight tools cannot achieve. Manufactured from autoclavable 410-grade stainless steel with an ergonomic knurled grip, this tool provides the leverage needed for stubborn fastener removal and the control required for delicate groove-cutting work. The tapered curved profile creates naturally undercut grooves ideal for mechanical locking in inlay work and reaches into tight recesses for debris extraction.
Indigo™ dental tools are made with AISI 410 German surgical grade stainless steel, not "alloy steel" made from rusted cars. We've been selling dental tools on-line since 1998. Ours stay sharp longer & are autoclavable: see Documentation below that confirms chromium & manganese content.
The curved hook pick's effectiveness depends on proper technique matched to your specific application. For extraction tasks (fasteners, clips, debris), position the hooked tip to engage the material securely, then apply steady pulling force rather than jerking motions. The curved pick provides mechanical advantage when used correctly. For scraping and cleaning applications, work the hook under deposits and lift away from surfaces rather than scraping across them, which reduces the risk of surface damage. When cutting grooves or channels, make multiple light passes rather than heavy cuts, allowing the curved hook pick's natural curve to create the desired taper. The knurled grip section indicates the optimal hand position for control. Always work with adequate lighting and, when appropriate, magnification (1) for precision tasks. Apply force progressively, feeling for the curved hook pick's engagement before committing to full force. For stuck or corroded components, apply appropriate penetrating oils or solvents before mechanical extraction. Clean the curved hook pick after use and inspect the tip regularly. Maintaining the hook's sharpness ensures optimal performance across all applications.
1) Note: we do not carry illuminated, head-mounted magnifiers but do have these options:
Jeweller's/Geology Loupes (10x, 20x, 30x) which are good for inspection work, checking your progress on fine detail work. They work well for firearm chamber inspection, PCB flux removal verification, deburring inspection, fossil preparation.
Linen Testers (6 & 8X) for checking machined part burrs, inspecting thread damage, verifying cleaning completeness. They are hands free & can sit on the work surface.
Hand Magnifiers ("Sherlock Holmes" style, typically 2-5x) for general inspection, examining larger areas. Use them for gasket surface inspection, vacuum roller cleaning verification, general maintenance tasks. They are good for scanning larger surfaces.
Need an ultrafine tool to clear clogged nozzles or microfilters? Insect pins may be a practical alternative. Our unique 100 pin sampler package has 10 pins in 10 thicknesses, all made with grade 316 stainless steel.
