Mites can cause significant yield loss in greenhouse crops. This 15X hand lens, only $5.95, can help identify mite pest species in order to choose the best control methods.

Some mites are so small (0.1-0.3 mm) their presence is indicated by mite toxins that distort newly emerging foliage and flower buds with thickened and twisted growth. Others signal the presence of their colonies with silken webs among the plant leaves.

Outdoor crops benefit from natural predators such as beetles & lacewings that can restrain outdoor mite populations & lessen the need for chemical spraying. This limits mite infestation and plant injury due to excessive pesticide spraying.

Greenhouse operators following IPM procedures may want to avoid miticides. Indoor controls involving environmental intervention such as raising or lowering temperature & humidity especially require accurate morphological identification of the infesting mite pest species.

No complaints for the price! It produces clear images easily. The plastic seems durable enough, but I have not tested it. The only improvement I would like to see is some sort of attachment point for a lanyard or cord. I have used it to examine some of the Brood X cicadas and various other insects and plants. Very helpful for the curious biologist though you won't be able to see cells unless they are abnormally large. Also, Indigo Instruments has great customer service!

— Indigo:

Thanks for the review & feedback. We haven't been able to get a version with both a loop to attach a lanyard & a flat surface to allowing branding (printing). Our Phone Camera Dissecting Microscope shows a close up of a fly but we recommend the 10X 23mm for its better depth of field. It might also allow you to see cells such as leaf stomata or cork.

Just what I was looking for. My grandkids are using them to examine bugs and flower parts in their yard.

Super-handy to have. I should have read closely that these are plastic, not metal, but that's on me. No complaints about the product.
