Unlike the plants & animals that become fossils, any coloration they may have had is not preserved. Fossils can also be broken or partly covered so their true size and shape is hidden. A color correcting doublet or triplet has no advantage when studying what are essentially monochromatic shapes & patterns. This pocket folding loupe can magnify 5, 10 or 15 times and costs only $5.95.
Start with a single 5X lens to identify the shape. Is it round, ovate or irregular? Add a second lens to get 10X & look for beading, spiralling or radiating marks. Need more power? Add the 3rd lens for 15X & zero in on your fossil's identity.

Thanks for the review & feedback. We haven't been able to get a version with both a loop to attach a lanyard & a flat surface to allowing branding (printing). Our Phone Camera Dissecting Microscope shows a close up of a fly but we recommend the 10X 23mm for its better depth of field. It might also allow you to see cells such as leaf stomata or cork.
