Build a 3D molecular model of hallucinogen Psilocybin using Authentic Molymod Model Parts by Indigo
The chemical structure of psilocybin is also referred to as 4-phosphoryloxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine. Its tryptamine core has an indole ring with an ethylamine (-CH2-CH2-N(CH3)2) side chain, similar to serotonin. Further, it has a phosphate group (-PO4H2) attached at position 4 of the indole ring.
Psilocybin is a psychoactive component of "magic mushrooms" that acts on serotonin receptors & produces hallucinations & euphoria. While considered illegal in many countries, research has shown some potential for treating ailments including depression. There is some indication that it acts on parts of the brain that normally are active only in dream states.
A molecular model of Psilocybin in the Molymod Hybrid Dome style uses the atoms & bonds in the parts list below. Our free 3D Molecular Model Builder shows other styles & allows for image rotation as an assembly guide.
