1,2 Dimethyl Cyclopropane

Build a molecule model of dimethyl cyclopropane from Authentic Molymod Atoms & Bonds from Indigo Instruments.

Dimethyl cyclopropane is a cyclic alkane with 3 geometric isomers (2 E, 1 Z). This ring compound is highly strained & hence very unstable. The one shown in the image is 1,2 dimethyl cyclopropane.

The three stereoisomers consist of different spatial arrangements of the methyl groups which results in a cis-isomer and two trans-enantiomers.  By definition this means that the cis-isomer has both methyl groups on the same "side" of the ring while the trans-enantiomers have their methyl groups  on opposite "sides" of the ring and are mirror images of each other.
