Ciprofloxacin is an antibacterial for treating urinary tract, lower respiratory tract and skin infections. It has a quinolone core containing a bicyclic formed from a benzene & diazine ring with a carboxylic acid functional group . Further, the quinoline core is connected with a piperazine ring. The quinolone core contains functional groups critical for enzyme binding and is important to the antimicrobial action of the drug while the carboxylic acid ensures an acidic environment.
