Form a chemical structure model of 3-octanone out of Genuine Molymod Atoms & Bonds by indigoinstruments.com
3-octanone, is a ketone also known as ethyl n-pentyl ketone or Ethyl amyl ketone. It can be a clear or pale yellow liquid with a fruity odor. It mixes with most organic solvents and boils at ~170°C.
The oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) appears to use 3-octanone as a nerve gas to paralyze and then consume tiny nematode worms found in soil. The compound is produced in its mycelium & targets the worm's nervous system. The oyster mushroom then releases enzymes that break down the worm's tissues which are then absorbed as nutrients.
A molecular model of 3-octanone in the Molymod Hybrid Dome style uses the atoms & bonds in the parts list below. Our free 3D Molecular Model Builder shows other styles & allows for image rotation as an assembly guide.
