Use Indigo® 0–3000 ppm high-range peracetic acid test strips to verify deep-clean sanitation in animal rendering plants. Get fast, reliable confirmation for regulatory compliance and worker safety.

Animal rendering plants operate under some of the most challenging sanitation conditions in the food and by-product industry. Organic residues, odors, and microbial loads demand deep-cleaning protocols with high-strength disinfectants. Peracetic acid (PAA), at concentrations approaching 3000 ppm, is commonly applied during major sanitation cycles to ensure surfaces, drains, and equipment are fully disinfected. These Indigo® 0–3000 ppm PAA test strips provide a rapid, cost-effective way to confirm that the disinfection solution has reached the necessary strength for reliable pathogen control.

Facilities engaged in render house sanitation, animal by-product processing plant cleaning, and industrial high-strength PAA disinfection must be able to validate that their chemical treatments meet target concentrations. Using peracetic acid test strips not only supports sanitation verification for rendering plants, but also helps demonstrate compliance with hazard reduction protocols and environmental biosecurity standards. By confirming concentrations in the 1000–3000 ppm range, operators can be confident that high-level sanitation has been achieved without relying on guesswork.

Best Practices for Animal Rendering Plants Using 3000ppm PAA Test Strips

  • PPE first: chemical-resistant gloves, splash goggles/face shield, impermeable apron, and appropriate respirator if vapour/aerosol risk exists.
  • Collect sample safely: transfer a small, known volume (e.g., 10 mL) into a chemically resistant beaker or bottle inside a fume hood or outdoors. Avoid splashes.
  • If expected > strip top range, predilute: e.g., perform a 1:10 dilution (1 part sample + 9 parts water). Test the dilution and multiply the reading by the dilution factor. Use labelled, clean containers.
  • Neutralize for handling if required: where local SOPs call for neutralization (e.g., adding a validated neutralizer), perform it per SOP before disposal but do not neutralize prior to reading unless your SOP instructs this (you’ll get a lower reading).
  • Test using the strip: dip or add sample to strip per manufacturer timing; read at the end point. If the strip shows “off-scale high,” repeat with a higher dilution.
  • Record & act: log ppm, dilution factor, operator, time, location, and actions taken. If readings indicate unsafe residuals, follow SOP (additional rinse, hold, notify safety officer).
