Indigo® 100ppm hydrogen peroxide test strips help accurately dilute H2O2 to optimize its antimicrobial properties in mushroom substrates. For higher concentrations of peroxide try our 0-400ppm hydrogen peroxide test strips or 0-10000 hydrogen peroxide test strips. Use our hydrogen peroxide dilution calculator to reduce food grade peroxide to the 100ppm or other ranges.
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is valuable in mushroom cultivation due to its antimicrobial properties and for its ability to sterilize substrates without excessive heat. H2O2 selectively eliminates bacteria, mold spores, and other competing fungi while leaving mushroom mycelia unharmed. It helps prevent Trichoderma (green mold) and other contaminants from growing & is a simple & cost effective cultivation enhancement where steam sterilization or autoclaving isn’t available.
H2O2 has additional benefits because it degrades naturally to release oxygen which aids mycelial respiration and growth. This effectively pasteurizes substrates which inhibiting anaerobic bacterial contamination and reduces the chances of contamination before inoculation.
You can use H2O2 to disinfect petri dishes, scalpel blades, and inoculation tools before use & to preventing mold growth in casing layers. Simply spray a diluted H2O2 solution on casing soil to prevent mold formation.
There are some obvious signs of contamination in mushroom cultivation. Mushrooms can appear discolored with yellow/brown spots or streaks, give off strong, foul odors or appear misshapen or stunted. White or blue-green molds on the mushrooms or growing media are another sign as are insects. Disinfection or chemical sterilization of your mushroom substrates or growing area with hydrogen peroxide may help get rid of airborne mushroom culture contaminants.
Some of the mushroom species you can grow in peroxide treated/sterilized substrate include almond mushrooms, earth angel mushrooms, elm oyster mushrooms, Pleurotus eryngii (King oyster), Agaricus subrufescens (Almond mushroom). Materials such as straw can have peroxide-decomposing enzymes but can be pasteurized by soaking in peroxide before inoculation with commercial spawn.
Common substrates such as compost, wood pellet fuel, fresh wood chips, pasteurized straw or similar peroxide compatible materials make great mushroom substrates but may not produce high yields for all species.
We've been selling hydrogen peroxide test strips since 2007. Buy fully documented Indigo® hydrogen peroxide test strips, 100 strips/pack with a guaranteed 3 year shelf life (dated back from expiration date "yyyy.mm.dd"); see storage requirements in Specifications.
Petri dishes can hold your agar culture growing medium for mold spore germination; they're sterile & inexpensive. Your interest in mushrooms, besides beyond growing for fun or profit, might be aided by a geology hand lens. Read our two blogs on magnifiers & mushrooms.
10 second response with readings at 0, 1, 3, 10, 50, 100ppm for residual level hydrogen peroxide measurement. The detection limit is 0.5 ppm with an accuracy: +/- ½ color chart unit
By far the cheapest, and most reliable. We do not go anywhere else for our test strips. They are accurate, easy to read and a great asset for our business. Thanks!
Quick services, their friendly helpdesk serves you well and provides the information you want to have.
We started using H2O2 in our swimming pool These test strips help us to keep the levels accurate. Easy to use and easy to read. Very happy with the product and with the results in our pool!
Perfect to balance H2O2 in hot tub.
Great service; price and product. Canada Post dropped the ball. Paid extra for express post and package sat in Canada Post for 3 days then delivered on day 4.
Thanks for the feedback. Many of our Canadian customers have had similar problems. This prompted us to write: Canada Post is in the way of small business competing against Amazon.
Great friendly service , always helpful and h202 strips high quality

Good to know. Some of the hot tub vendors who have contacted us over the years recommend the 400ppm hydrogen peroxide strips. Both are effective but outdoor hot tubs may be more susceptible to windblown algae as well as H2O2 breakdown due to sunlight.
