The Indigo® AtoMag™ magnetic glucose molecular model lets you quickly swap the –OH group on carbon-4 where it points down, to galactose where the –OH group points up. Galactose differs only slightly from glucose but together they form the disaccharide lactose. The difference between this & maltose which has two alpha-D-glucoses has great biological importance.
You can build an Indigo® AtoMag™ galactose model with our 62053SP Molymod Student Organic Chemistry Model Set with the domed hydrogen shown to the right. The two 5x5mm N42 neodymium rod magnets per tetrahedral carbon & oxygen atom are sold separately & need installation.
Watch the Indigo® AtoMag™ cyclohexane do the best chair-boat flip of any molecular model style. Like the cyclohexane model, the palm size magnetic galactose lets you actually feel the difference between the stable chair & unstable boat conformations.
You can also build a variety of conventional molecular models with either of these two kits: Mono, Di & Poly Saccharide Models or Glucose Models.
