Tight teaching budget? Use Indigo 2.5x5mm small but strong neodymium magnets to build custom DIY magnetic letter classroom sets for homeschooling, early education or preschool.
These magnets have the extra strength needed to work with thick foam magnetic letters. They're also good for wood or polymer clay jumbo letter tiles on cloth covered metal sheets if high contrast whiteboards are unavailable.
For even bigger savings, stencil letters & numbers on cardboard or thin plastic. Color code them as you please for vowels & consonants, capitals & lower case or numbers even & odd.
Then, simply draw lines between the letters & use scissors or razor blades to cut the squares out. Since these will be very light, you can attach our smaller, thinner 2.5x1mm Nd disc magnets or 3x1mm Nd discs magnets with a bit of glue & you're done at a fraction of the cost! No need for a dry erase board; any metal surface such as a galvanized steel sheet will work.
Don't be fooled by claims of superstrong, N52 magnets which are better suited for non-contact applications. N42 is only slightly weaker & best bang for the buck.
