This alpha helix or beta pleated sheet model consists of 20 amino acid cores to build the backbones of either structure. The alpha helix fits into the major groove of the 12 layer DNA model. The long bonds have white inserts to designate them as hydrogen bonds. The inlaid image shows the beta pleated sheet which uses the same components as the alpha helix.
If you wish to modify the side chains represented by the green atoms you can use with the 20 Amino Acid Model Kit.
The model is structurally correct but does not include explicit double bonds for both simplicity and cost. This model would use the X-peg style of double bond & the parts for these are listed in Related Products. You would need 40 of the X-pegs & 2 of the opaque bond bundles.
The animation below from Scientific American is particularly well done. However, it doesn't mention the fact that alpha helixes are attached in the major groove as anchors & are used in the process of pulling replicating DNA strands apart.
