Best Practices for Salons Using Barbicide™

  • Use Indigo® 10,000 ppm quat test strips to confirm potency at the start of each day.
  • Replace solutions whenever they turn cloudy or after a full day’s use.
  • Wash tools to remove hair and debris before immersion
  • Immerse tools for at least 10 minutes to ensure full disinfection.
  • Keep Barbicide jars covered to reduce contamination and evaporation.

How to Dilute Barbicide?

Barbicide's is a benzalkonium chloride quat disinfectant based on alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride that is 5.12% by volume as a concentrated liquid.

Dip strip & remove for immediate readings at 1000-2500-5000-10000 ppm for quaternary ammonium disinfectant concentration. Read strip results immediately. If you wait the 30 seconds needed for some other strips you will get a reading that is too high.

  • Indigo® quat test strips have a guaranteed minimum 3 year shelf life but are stored in desiccant lined vials so actual shelf life can be 5+ years.
  • Store in original packaging in a 20-30C, dry, place out of direct sunlight.
  • Detection Limit: 500 ppm; Accuracy: +/- ½ color chart unit
