Best Practices for Salons Using Barbicide™

  • Mix correctly: Always dilute Barbicide according to the manufacturer’s instructions (2 oz per 32 oz water or 50mL/litre).
  • Test daily: Use 10,000 ppm quat test strips to confirm potency at the start of each day.
  • Replace solutions: Change Barbicide whenever it becomes cloudy, contaminated, or after a full day’s use.
  • Clean before disinfecting: Tools should be washed of hair and debris before immersion; Barbicide disinfects, but does not clean dirt/oils.
  • Soak for full contact time: Immerse tools for at least 10 minutes to ensure full disinfection.
  • Store safely: Keep Barbicide jars covered to reduce contamination and evaporation.

Dip strip & remove for immediate readings at 1000-2500-5000-10000 ppm for quaternary ammonium disinfectant concentration. Read strip results immediately. If you wait the 30 seconds needed for some other strips you will get a reading that is too high.

  • Indigo® quat test strips have a guaranteed minimum 3 year shelf life but are stored in desiccant lined vials so actual shelf life can be 5+ years.
  • Store in original packaging in a 20-30C, dry, place out of direct sunlight.
  • Detection Limit: 500 ppm; Accuracy: +/- ½ color chart unit

  • Indigo® QAC test strips are calibrated for Oasis 146: see details. Consult your supplier if necessary.
