This 12 coordinate atom is used principally to represent multivalent metal atoms. It comes in 3 pieces; a central piece consisting of six 6 "arms" that extend radially, & 2 pieces of three 3 "arms" that attach to it.
In addition to representing atoms in close-packed structures such as HCP and FCC lattices, this 12-coordinate atom is also ideal for showing the large A-site cations (e.g., Ca2+) in cubic perovskites, where they occupy a 12-fold coordinated site between corner-sharing BX6 octahedra
