Glass Graduated Cylinders

Glass graduated cylinder sizes 10ml to 250ml for measuring liquids accurately in science labs, in the kitchen or even as bartending promotional shot glasses. Indigo graduated cylinders are made with borosilicate glass and are food, drink & dishwasher safe.

Graduated Glass Measuring Cylinders

Graduated cylinders are essential for measuring liquid volumes accurately and reproducibly. Indigo Instruments offers borosilicate Class B glass cylinders in five sizes: 10, 25, 50, 100, and 250 mL; for repeatable laboratory, educational, or production use. Their tall, narrow form minimizes parallax error and makes volume reading easier than with beakers or flasks.

Further, glass cylinders resist heat, acids, and solvents better than most plastics, while maintaining calibration over years of use. Our class B glass graduated cylinders are more accurate than our Erlenmeyer flasks and beakers and can be used to measure the volume of irregular objects by the amount of water they displace.

Glass vs. Plastic Graduated Cylinders

Feature Glass Cylinders (Class B) Plastic Cylinders (Polypropylene)
Chemical resistance Excellent with acids, bases, and solvents; no leaching. Good for mild acids/bases; not for strong solvents.
Thermal stability Can withstand autoclaving and heating up to 250 °C. Limited to ~120 °C; may warp under high heat.
Optical clarity Superior transparency; easy meniscus reading. Translucent, harder to see precise levels.
Durability Brittle if dropped but retains calibration indefinitely. Impact resistant; graduations may fade over time.
Cost-effectiveness Higher initial cost, long service life. Lower cost, suitable for short-term or educational use.

Glass Graduated Cylinders vs. Glass Burettes

Characteristic Graduated Cylinder (Class B) Glass Burette (Class B)
Purpose Measure & transfer approximate liquid volumes quickly. Deliver precise variable volumes for titration.
Graduation precision ±1 mL (typical for 100 mL size) ±0.05 mL or better.
Speed of use Fast: fill, read, pour. Slower: controlled drip rate.
Ease of cleaning Simple cylindrical shape; quick rinse. Stopcock and narrow bore require thorough cleaning.
Best applications Solution prep, density work, general liquid measurement. Titrations and precise volumetric delivery.

What Our Customers Say on Google

(Genuine Reviews, not AI Generated or Worse)

Amber T.: Friendly staff with great communication... They worked to get my shipment to me as soon as possible which I appreciated. The product seems to be high quality and the price point is better than anywhere else I looked....

Anna H: I was pleased with the response that I got at Indigo Instruments - very helpful, very courteous and polite. I really appreciated the way you handled my very small purchase...

Bob J: Very high quality glass! Better than any of the cheap garbage I've ordered from Amazon. This is easily my new go-to for anything glass measurement related!

Cathy W: BEST quality, best prices, best customer service for consistent high-quality lab glass and powerful magnets for any projects. Lab, classroom, workshop or crafting projects. Orders of all sizes — just a few or boxes…

Maggie L: I ordered a few labware glass pieces and they were even better than i expected! Came right on time and were very well packaged. The shipping was less than a week so a very reasonable as well. I have already thought about what i am ordering next! 10/10 would recommend as i have raved about it to many people already

No Glassware Returns

Glassware cannot be returned for any reason; this is for your safety and ours. It is prohibitively expensive to test for bacteriological, chemical or radiological agents since there is no way to tell if glass has been contaminated by looking at it. We would have to throw it away even if you claim to never have opened the package. Call first if you are unsure of what you need.

However, if the item is clearly defective, either heavily bubbled, chipped or with really bad markings, send us an image & we will refund you.

Best Practices for Accurate Readings

  • Always read the meniscus at eye level for consistent results.
  • Rinse with distilled water and your sample liquid to avoid contamination.
  • Keep cylinders on a level surface and avoid parallax errors.
  • Use Class B glassware for general lab accuracy where volumetric flasks or pipettes are unnecessary.

Instructions/Safety

Safety Disclaimer-Warning

Handle glassware with care & wear goggles & gloves because:

  1. Unless you poured it yourself, assume any liquid is hazardous.
  2. Hot & cold glass looks the same & does not have to be red to cause burns. Unless it was in the freezer, assume it is hot.
  3. Borosilicate glass will withstand a fair degree of thermal shock but unless your intent is to see if you can make it crack, don't toss recently heated glass into a cold water bath.
  4. When borosilicate glass breaks, it makes sharp edges like any other kind of glass. Dispose of pieces carefully.
