Need to prepare or stabilize fossils during extraction? The Indigo™ 22576 dental pick is ideal for delicate, small-scale removal of sedimentary matrix near the fossil.

Typically, a paleontologist uses a dental pick to clean and prepare fossils by carefully removing small amounts of sediment or surrounding rock or soil without damaging the fossil itself. The Indigo™ 22576 dental pick allows for precision cleaning, especially around delicate bones of vertebrates or intricate structures of soft-bodies invertebrates. By gently scraping away layers of matrix, the preserved structures of the fossil can be gradually revealed.

Indigo™ dental tools are made with AISI 410 German surgical grade stainless steel, not "alloy steel" made from rusted cars. We've been selling dental tools on-line since 1998. Ours stay sharp longer & are autoclavable: see Documentation below that confirms chromium & manganese content.

Doing Molecular Paleontology?

Do you need a physical molecular model but don't have a 3D printer? The Indigo® 3D Molecular Model Builder can list the atoms & bonds needed to build a physical model of just about any of the 100 million organic compounds in the NIH-PubChem database. The tool uses JMol & outputs information for two of the most popular molecular model styles, Molymod & Orbit (Cochranes of Oxford). If it doesn't do yours, let us know; we might be able to fix that for free.

What About Forensic Paleontology?

If your work involves Trace Evidence Analysis then you likely study microfossils of pollen, spores, or foraminifera  found on suspects or victims. By their nature, they are very small with details that are hard to resolve with the naked eye. Take a look at our doublet & triplet geology loupes with 10 to 30X magnification. Indigo™ magnifiers might just be able to help you identify and authenticate fossils involved in illegal trafficking, smuggling, or fraud.

Need a greater variety of ultra-sharp tips for your work? Our unique 100 piece insect pin sampler package has 10 pins in 10 thicknesses, all made with grade 316 stainless steel.

What Do Our Customers Say?

  • Kelli Cote: Great quality products at a very reasonable price! Purchased some dental picks for my daughter's University paleontology club to help with their fossil preparation lab.
  • Sandra Mead: I bought several stainless steel picks, scrapers and spatulas for art and mechanical work. They're great! They are strong, sharp and hold their shape; not like the ones you get on Amazon or at home depot. Finally a good product at a good price. I'm telling all my friends about this site. Thanks Indigo.
