Build a rutile TiO2 unit cell structure with the Indigo® 68763W molecular model kit to demonstrate D4h point group symmetry, tetragonal crystal structure, and octahedral Ti4+ coordination. Ideal for solid state chemistry, crystallography, photocatalysis, and materials science courses.
The Indigo® 68763W model kit builds a rutile unit cell, a polymorph of titanium dioxide (TiO2). It belongs to the D4h point group & crystallographic space group P42/mnm & shows tetragonal symmetry. Grey Ti4+ ions are octahedrally coordinated by six red O2- ions while each O2- ion is trigonally coordinated by three Ti4+ ions. Rutile is the most common naturally occurring form of TiO2 and is used as a white pigment in paints, plastics, and cosmetics, as a UV-absorbing component in sunscreens, and as a starting material for the production of titanium metal.
Indigo Instruments has held inventory of genuine Cochranes of Oxford (Orbit) parts for 30+ years (See Skeletal (Orbit/Minit)) that are compatible with every molecular model we have sold since day 1. This level of quality may appear expensive but no parts support from other vendors costs even more.
