A little bit about Metformin:
Metformin is an oral medication for people who suffer from Type 2 Diabetes & to a lesser degree, pre-diabetics. It regulates high blood sugar and prevents the affected patients from tremendous health problems including blindness, kidney damage, nerve problems and even death. First discovered in the 1920’s, it went ignored for two decades until interest reappeared in the 1940’s. It is currently believed to be the most widely prescribed antidiabetic drug in the world!
How does Metformin work?
When insulin is released, the liver reduces glucose production, but in people with Type 2 diabetes, the liver responds poorly to insulin and continues to release glucose. The condition, known as insulin resistance, is caused by a glitch in the communication between liver and pancreas. Metformin aids in controlling blood sugar levels in people with Type 2 diabetes & may also control LDL cholesterol & triglycerides.
How should Metformin be used to treat Diabetes
To treat Diabetes successfully, you need to rely not only on Metformin drug medication, but also to live a healthier lifestyle such as exercising, eating the right foods, maintaining a positive mental state, avoiding smoking and getting enough sleep.
